SNA and Parent Afternoon Tea

The SNA team had a delightful afternoon tea with their students and parents. A final farewell and a welcome on board for September. Thanks to Ms. Murphy and Ms. Mellotte who were wonderful tea ladies.

School Discos 2017

We had a lovely finish to the end of our year when our children dressed up to the nines and attended the end of year discos. With the wonderful support from the Parents' Association Committee, funds were raised for sports jerseys. The staff enjoyed the dancing as much as the children, but the recovery time was definitely slower.

St. Josephs get Fifth Green Flag

The Green Schools Committee are delighted to report that they received their fifth green flag for biodiversity. Representatives from the committee travelled to the awards ceremony in Drogheda. It was a very special occasion.

We were then delighted to have Dale Treadwell of RTE Jr. fame raise our Green flag while the school cheered on.

It's been a busy time for The Green Schools Committee. We held our last walking bus of the school year and were delighted to report that there was a great turn out of over 70 pupils walking together on a beautiful June morning.

We also had a fabulous visit from Dale Treadwell who talked to our pupils about the importance of nature and looking after our bugs, bats and minibeasts.Without these biodiversity would be at risk.

One of the highlights of the school year is the recycled fashion show. This year was no exception. Sixth class excelled and the standard of entries made it very difficult for our judging panel to decide on a winner. A chorus of chants and cheers assisted their decision and a very deserving winner was decided. The winning entry was "The Golden Tribe" modelled by Nasya and created by Linda, Naoise and Leah.

Have a look at photos from the raising of our 5th Green Flag and our Junk Couture Fashion Show

Sports Day 2016-2017

St. Joseph's Sports Day 2017 was held on the All Weather pitch last Friday in glorious sunshine. All pupils participated in a wide range of activities including Long Distance races, sprints, egg and spoon races, sack races, obstacle course, welly throwing and long jump. The chanting from each 'Teach' could be heard far and wide around the community as they cheered on their peers in their races. The infants finished off their day dancing to the tunes of DJ Sheppard as the staff and 6th class warmed up for the annual penalty shoot out in the courtyard. A great day was had by all and a special word of thanks to all the parents who turned out in huge numbers to support.

The Tree Sculpture

Lots of preparation took place for the Tree Sculpture. The tree is part of the percent for art scheme funded by the D.E.S. All pupils, some parents, staff and B.O.M. contributed designing the motifs.

We had an assembly with the whole school to show them the designs and to get students talking about the motifs that would best represent our school.

Mrs. Callan's fifth class decided on the motifs they liked best and traced them using a projector. They then placed them on the tree to find out the best position for them. Bernie, the artist from the U.K., helped them with their work.

Currently, the motifs are being cut out in the U.K. We are really excited waiting for the 4 metre tree to arrive to St. Joseph's.
